Gray Areas are Everywhere

They are so pervasive that there are many articles about it online.  I came across this simple blog post about Navigating Gray Areas at Work

The author is amazingly on point when she says:

And remember, a job description is never just black and white. A workplace is full of gray areas. Even though it can feel a little unnerving when you can’t control what’s happening, remember that you can control what you do in those situations.

Yes!!  Gray areas can feel unnerving, especially to people who are very black and white or right and wrong. That unnerving feeling can elicit that fight or flight response that we hear so much about.  Since we choose the route we are most comfortable in, and usually the one that will be less effort, most people choose the flight route.  And we all know running away from your problems isn’t the best option for long-term success.

As I see it, you have two choices here:

  • Change your perspective about working in the gray area or
  • Outsource the gray area work to someone who is already comfortable there.

Changing your perspective is critical if you want to do the gray area work yourself.  You must shift how you look at gray and find some semblance of comfort there.  I can’t help you change your perspective, but I bet a life coach can!(The blog post also lists some quick ways to start getting comfortable.)

Outsourcing the gray area work is something I CAN help you with.  Gray is my black and white.  You focus on growing yourself and I’ll focus on getting your business through the gray areas along the way.  Contact me today!
